John 15 Academy –
Repurposing education. There is great hope.
John 15 Academy exists to change the world’s view of the role of education as supporting maturity, by putting relationships first.
- We believe when students learn in trusting relationships, they also mature.
- We believe the fruit of maturity includes achievement in academic subjects.
- We believe maturity also offers – most importantly – a full and free life of purpose, and a life-giving impact and influence on others and the world around them.
The long held traditions of education challenge us to see new opportunities. In our post-factory world, we must begin new traditions – that open doors beyond the factories, that no longer define our lives or our culture.
This blog post offers the seeds of new ideas – that are already bearing the fruit of maturity in the lives of young persons.
“At School” is a blog about new ideas in education. The writing offers inspiration — and it also challenges our generation to build new traditions based on fresh ideas and research based innovations.

This. Not that.
There is great hope. We can lead students on a journey that equips them to live a full and free life – that is deeply satisfying, and that has an impact and influence for good in families, communities and our world.
We believe this kind of education offers these distinctions:
- Maturity. Not immaturity.
- Growth. Not perfection.
- Together. Not alone.
- Vulnerability. Not labels.
- Building. Not testing.

A New Worldview
Trusting grace in education demands a Biblical Worldview that offers more than a list of facts we believe to be true about the Bible and about God and man. Trusting God gives us both a new life and the power to live this new life; trusting God changes everything.

We heard of an amazing teaching philosophy that saw every child as having the potential to succeed regardless of their struggle. We met Janet Newberry, teacher and principal, and she personally came alongside Colton as he entered his kindergarten year. Day after day she worked with Colton as he learned to persevere past his limitations and we were astounded by the huge leaps we saw in his development. He learned, through effort and hard work, the habit of attention, and to know and understand the beauty of the world around him.
One specialist was dumbfounded by his ability to recite the entire length of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 91 at the end of his kindergarten year. He was thriving in a classroom setting and had impeccable penmanship. Colton had far surpassed the limited expectations thought earlier by this specialist and many others in her field. – Sarah K.
